My Adventure Gear

My absolute favourite type of travel involves a lot of outdoor adventures. I have accumulated a lot of gear over the years and have linked them below. Rentals, borrowing, and buying second hand are great options to get started. A lot of these are affordable options I have been using as a full time broke student. I do look forward to saving and updating my gear in the coming years.

This does not include things I currently use but would not recommend (like my sleeping bag since that needs to be updated).

Please note some of these are affiliate links that support my work at no extra cost to you. Thank you :)

CAMPING

TENT

Woods Creekside 3 season 4 people

I have used this for both front country and back country trips, and I love it. As someone that camps in groups this tent is comfortable, light (we split it when in a group) and affordable. I have had this tent for 3+ years and it also hold up well.

Sleeping Pad

Klymit Static V2

I absolutely love this sleeping pad! It’s light and truly has changed the game of sleeping in the outdoors.

Insulated Sleeping Mat

Decathlon Insulated Sleeping Pad

For extra comfort, I love carrying this mat whenever I can. It’s an essential when I know I will be camping on gravel.

COOKING

Backcountry Stove

MSR PocketRocket 2 Ultralight

I have had this stove for many years now and it’s great for backcountry trips or solo (or 2 people) adventures.

Backcountry Stove Fuel

MSR ISOPRO Fuel

These canisters come in different sizes to go along with the MSR stoves.

Frontcountry Stove

Coleman Camp Bristo 1-burner

When in the front country or when I know I will be cooking more I take this easy, affordable, light stove into the outdoors.

Frontcountry Stove Fuel

Coleman Butane Gas

This is the fuel that goes along with the front country stove, there are different versions that can be found at different gas stations.

Cooking Set-up

Stanley Cooking Set

I recently purchased this ultralight cook set and I am stoked for summer adventures.

Water Bottle

Hydro Flask 24 oz

I love using this on all my adventures whenever I can. It keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold.

Water Bottle

Nalgene Wide Mouth

I love how light this is. I carry this with my life straw and use it in case I need to drink wild water. I don’t fill it with water unless I need to.

Water Filter

LifeStraw Personal Water Filter

It’s important to have a water filtration system when using water from the outdoors. I use this like a straw with my Nalgene whenever I need to.

Water Reservoirs

My water reservoirs are from Hydro Flask and Decathlon. But there are a lot of options on the market.

Mug

Hydro Flask Mug

This is great for cold days! I usually just use a carabiner to click to the outside of my pack for whenever I make myself a hot drink.

SAFETY

Bear Bin

Bear Vault 450

This is a game changer for staying safe in bear country! It’s also a great stool for when I am cooking or want to enjoy the view.

Bear Spray

Sabre Wild Max Bear Spray

There are a lot of these on the market, I have just been using the ones from Canadian Tire.

GPS

Garmin inReach Mini

GPS/Satellite devices are essential when going on adventures. I use this paired with my phone and absolutely love it. It’s a great way to let your loved ones know that you are safe and have a secure way out if needed.

* there is a monthly membership

Headlight

BioLite HeadLamp

Again, there are a lot of headlights on the market but I like this one because it’s rechargeable.

Lantern & Power Bank

LuminAid 2in1

This 2in1 is a great way to save space. I love that this is solar powered - I hang it on the outside of my pack while I hike so it charges up.

PACKS

Hydration Pack

Decathlon Evadict 5L

I use this for trail running or when I need to carry absolutely nothing but the essentials.

Short Hike Pack

14L Down Shift Hydration Pack

This is great for short hikes where I still need to carry some extra gear. It has an insulated spot to put a meal and the hydration pack that comes with it is also insulated. This is a game changer for quick view hikes so I can also carry a meal with me.

Longer Hiking Pack

Gregory Maya 30

I use this pack for all my longer hikes or anywhere I need to carry a lot of my camera gear.

Backcountry Pack

Fairview Trek 50

This is my only pack that is also recommended for travelling on flights. I love that the front opens completely, it makes it super easy to pack and find things - very much like a suitcase.

Backcountry Pack

Gregory Amber 55

This was my first backcountry pack and I love the fit. It has been with me for a couple year now and holds up very well.

Backcountry Pack

Gregory Kalmina 60

This is great for multi-day trips into the backcountry. I love how adjustable it is and I have not needed to fill it to the rim yet.

SUMMER

Hiking Boots

Keen NXIS Boot

These hiking boots are comfortable and have made my hiking trips so much easier.

Sandals

Keen Women’s Elle Strappy

I use these as camp shoes or for swim days. I am truly a sandal gal!

Socks

Merrell Hiking socks

I wear these year around and love them. I usually layer socks for the winter if needed and pop in a warmer in to my boot if needed.

Towel

PackTowel

I take my PackTowel on all of my adventures, and trips. It’s an essential and easy way I bring comfort wherever I go.

Hiking Top

Kari-Traa Hiking Top

As someone that likes to dress modestly it’s sometimes difficult to stay cool in the heat of summer. This shirt is very breathe-able!

Hiking Pants

Arcteryx Gamma LT

These pants are great for a lot of different activities. I have used them for climbing, and hiking so far.

Hiking Pants

Men’s Mountain Hiking Pants

I bought these pants from the mens sections and really like how many pockets they have, the style and how adjustable they are.

Hiking Pants

Be free Jogger

These pants are really comfortable and I use them for mainly hiking but also just lounging around.

Rain Jacket

Rain or Shine Coat

This is the coat of my dreams! Every little detail has been thought throughly about. I use this primarily for short hikes or trips in the city. But a lot of people use this for longer adventures.

Jacket

Atom Hoody Women’s

I wear this as a mid-layer in the winter or use it as my warmest layer in the summer.

WINTER

Snowshoes

Carryown 4 in 1

While renting is easy and cheap - I recommend buying snowshoes for those that hike often in the winter.

Crampons/spikes

SH Winter Hiking Crampons Adult

These are an essential for anyone travelling to or living in weather like Albertas. I have honestly used these for walks around the block, quick runs and other very mundane things.

Skates

CCM Skates

I have had my skates from a very long time and suggest buying second hand if you can. Skating is a great way to explore frozen lakes in places like Alberta.

Mine are very old and I can’t find the exact ones on the site but these are a close second.

Fleece Lined Hiking Pants

Northbound Women’s Adventure Pants

These pants are great for adventures where you are going to move a lot. I have worn them driving, hiking, skiing and snowshoeing so far.

Base-layer

Women’s Omni Heat

I have two of these long sleeves and I wear them all the time. Sometimes even paired with jeans for school.
